Press Release – European Parliament Informal Carers Interest Group calls for action to support young carers
While the general issue of informal care seems to be (slowly but increasingly) recognised by policy makers, young carers do not yet feature on national or European policy agendas. During the meeting of the European Parliament Informal Carers Interest Group held on 6th March in Brussels, it emerged from the discussion the invisibility of young carers and the fact that many governments and services are unaware rather than unwilling. Therefore, there is the need to raise awareness on young carers. This is the first step, to which we have to add more research (as we need data) and a change in policies and action.
